The Girl From Dharamshala

March 31, 2017

In the fog, her eyes were black as night, as a ravens wing, glimmering like gemstones. Wandering the gothic church, McCleod’s grave stood before us. Its obelisk, grey, moss-laden, aged, rose into the fog to hide with the trees. She walked behind it, seeming, for a moment, to disappear into the grey woods. Time was still, silent. All was cold. She touched my hand and said, I’ve always wanted to return to my father.

Kyle …when were you in Torre de Nolfi? My mother was also born there….her maiden name is Ventresca…. Isn’t it a spectacular region. Sebastiano Ventresca is a well known regional writer who lives in Aquila but was also born in this village.

Maybe we are related! :). I was there about a 9 months ago. My Italian family is from there. In the cemetery where my family is buried, there are many many many graves with the name Ventresca.

Just saw your reply.? Wow…. There were many Ventresca who moved to the Philadelphia area…and now reside in the Bucks county area. There is also a Guido Ventresca near Fresno California…his brother is Sebastiano in Aquila… he has a son Luigi who is a doctor…

Did you notice at the cemetery..the dates….Many of the people who passed away before 1944 are not there anymore….

Hope that you loved your Abruzzi adventure….It is my bucket list to revisit…. Best wishes…

I just saw this one! I’ve so busy with a new job that I haven’t been blogging that much. Well, I also hope you can return. My family, The Bevilaqua and The Spinardi, had a wonderful family reunion just recently. 60 related all in the same house! It felt so good and natural, even if I’d never met half of them before! Take care…
